This workflow is a faster alternative to Single Period Consolidation. Instead of reviewing and confirming each company's extract before posting, Multi Period Consolidation extracts and posts consolidation journal entries across all your subsidiaries — and across multiple periods — in a single click.
It's a significant time-saver when you need to re-consolidate multiple periods or when you're comfortable posting without the extract-level review step. If you need to review the posting details later, you can always look them up through the Single Period Consolidation workflow.
When to use this workflow
Re-consolidating multiple periods — Re-consolidate any number of periods and companies with one click. By comparison, the Single Period workflow requires you to review, confirm, and post each company and each period one at a time.
Fast single-period posting for experienced users — If you don't need to see the extract details before posting, use this workflow to push through current-period consolidation entries in one click. Review details are always available afterward through the Single Period workflow.
Month-to-date consolidation — Need a quick consolidated view partway through the month? One click will consolidate month-to-date financials across all your companies.
Other key features
Automatic deletion of prior consolidation entries — When re-consolidating a prior period, the system automatically detects and deletes the existing consolidation journal before posting the updated one.
Note: This automatic delete feature only applies to consolidation journals booked on or after February 5, 2025. See this article for more details.
Failure handling and retry — Once you click Extract & Post Consolidation Journal Entry, the system begins processing each subsidiary across the periods you've selected. If any extract or post fails, the display will clearly flag the issue and explain why it failed. After you've resolved the issue, a Retry button will appear so you can re-run only the failed postings.
Reviewing posted entries — To view the extract details after a journal has posted, use the Single Period Consolidation workflow. Select the period and click the Review link for the relevant company and period to see both the extract and the posted JE details.
